Welcome back, metalheads! Today featured some tasty metal indeed, with both Dark Tranquility and Exodus bringing out some of the best offerings of their careers. Once again, "Exhibit B" is deft and self-assured, and rarely falters as it hauls you through 74 minutes of timeless thrash. "We Are The Void" is just as competent and pleasing, but it offers something more: a memorability that brings the album back to you, well after its 48 minutes are up. Perhaps its relative brevity is part of its strength; the songs are just as powerful, but reduced to crystallize their potency. "We Are The Void" is as close to a modern classic as anything else in the Arsies, and with it Dark Tranquility triumph over Exodus, and move on to the Semifinals.
Tomorrow, find out if High on Fire have what it takes to defeat Iron Maiden.
